一般两个Cluster之间的大距离为15m（塑料光纤）或200m（HCS玻璃光纤），当使用光纤媒介转换器时大距离是1000m（3280ft。工厂提供标准塑料光纤距离为1.5、5、15m。在一个Cluster内部（Base或扩展）Modulebus的传递通过MTU或S800L模件实现。每个MTU及S800L模件两边分别具有一个总线插针及插座用于实现FCI或Modulebus模件与I/O模件之间通信的自动连接，一般Modulebus的长度不能超过2.5m，同时必须为每个MTU或S800L模件的地址代码，且多一个Cluster内支持12个I/O模件。Modulebus Clu-ster可以根据现场需要灵活扩展，但整个I/O站总模件数量不能超过24个。
